Sydney Airport, also known as the Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport, is an international airport. The airport is located 8 kilometres south of Sydney’s CBD, in the suburb of Mascot, and it belongs to Sydney Airport Holdings. The Airport is one of the oldest continuously operated airports in the world. The land that the Airport was built on has been a bullock paddock, with many spaces around the Mascot being swampy. Being the place where the Sydney Airport is located, Mascot has become the suburb for high-density residential development that has evidently changed its face.
Mascot has a wide difference in its positive and negative factors – great amenities, bad traffic, good location, and a lot of noise – that the suburb’s appeal as a place to live will mostly depend on your need perhaps more than any other inner Sydney suburbs. These differences between the highs and lows of the suburb make it interesting. Mascot can serve as a case study in Sydney’s rapid urban planning and development.
The Sydney Airport is the major airport that serves the city. It also serves as the key hub for Qantas Airways Limited and a secondary hub for Jetstar and Virgin Australia. Since the Airport’s original terminal was completed, it has undergone 2 major expansions. One of these expansions is still underway, and it is expected to be completed by 2025. This expansion will include a multi-level car park, a high-rise office block, and the expansion of both the domestic and international terminals.
