THE PELVIC FLOOR

The pelvic floor includes a group of muscles and ligaments that form a “floor like” structure that supports key organs. These include the bladder and bowels (and uterus for women).

A strong pelvic floor is important for preventing issues like urinary incontinence for men and women (the involuntary loss of control of urine) and pelvic organ prolapse.

Pelvic organ prolapse occurs when the muscles and tissues supporting the organs (i.e. the pelvic floor) weaken. This can be caused by various issues including childbirth, ageing, chronic cough, hormonal changes such as menopause, excessive straining due to constipation, constant lifting of heavy objects, obesity and pregnancy.

Located in the heart of Chatswood, we're here for all your physio and wellness needs.

HOW CAN WOMEN'S HEALTH PHYSIOTHERAPY HELP WOMEN STRENGTHEN THEIR PELVIC FLOOR MUSCLES?

All men and women should regularly exercise the pelvic floor muscles. It is highly recommended that women do pelvic floor exercises daily to prevent weakness and, if needed, to improve the strength of the pelvic floor muscles.

As with any muscle, consistently performing the right exercises always helps. Gentle exercises (like walking regularly) can also help strengthen the pelvic floor muscles. Anyone who’s ever experienced pelvic pain or pelvic organ prolapse will tell you it’s a frustrating and painful ordeal.

According to several studies, women after the age of 35 lose approximately 5% of their body’s muscle mass every 10 years. This loss of muscle mass affects every aspect of a woman’s body, including the pelvic region.

What People Think Of Us

Any Questions?

Read our FAQ below

Do I need a doctor's referral?
You don't need a referral to come and see one of our Physiotherapists. We are experienced and capable of diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal disorders and we are your GP's most recommended health professional.
We love to liaise directly with any other health professionals who you may be seeing, including your GP or specialists and we'll often get in touch with them after your first consultation so that you are getting the best possible treatment.
Can I claim a rebate for my treatment?
Yes, we have HICAPS and Medipass available at all of our clinics. HICAPS has partnered with 98% of health insurers, allowing you to claim a rebate on the spot for any Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology and Remedial Massage consultations.
What happens at my first treatment session?
When you come to your first appointment at our physiotherapy centre, one of our expert physiotherapists will sit down with you and discuss your problem. An examination follows which may include physical, orthopaedic and physiotherapy tests to help locate your problem. Our examinations are thorough and will put you at ease.  Your physiotherapist will first discuss and then commence a recommended treatment plan. We want to make sure you get out of pain and stay that way for the longest time possible, and we’ll give you the best treatment plan we feel will do that. You are an individual – and so is your treatment plan and the way we approach it.
Why should I see a physiotherapist?
Our physiotherapists have expert knowledge in how to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal issues ranging from sports injuries, neck problems, back pain, joint and muscle injuries, chronic pain, arthritis, etc. Our team of healthcare experts can assist you in resuming or maintaining an active and independent life at home, at work, and in sports. Our Physios are experts, and we'd love to help you learn how to control your injuries rather than be controlled by them.
