Banksia is a southern Sydney suburb which is located in the southern suburbs of Sydney, in New South Wales, Australia.Banksia was heavily timbered but started seeing residential development in the 1880s. The suburb developed more rapidly after a railway station was opened in 1906. Banksia was first revamped as part of Council’s Thriving Town Centres Program launched in 2004. About half of the suburb population were born in Australia, while the next most common countries of birth include Macedonia, China.
The suburb shopping centre entails a small group of shops which include a chemist, convenience store, Banksia Bakery, Australia Post, a takeaway, and a number of hair salons. More commercial development and shops in Banksia are sited on the Princes Highway. Most of the commercial developments in the suburb are part of the automotive precinct, which features auto accessory retailers, car yards, auto repair shops, type shops, and other businesses include takeaway food shops and hotels. The commercial sector also covers the adjacent suburbs of Rockdale and Arncliffe.
The suburb’s railway station connects with the Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line. The suburb is also serviced by bus paths that run between Bondi and Burwood through Eastgardens. You can also find the market garden on the eastern part of West Botany Street, which is not far from the St George Soccer Stadium. Situation close to the stadium on the grounds of Bartom Park are the Macedonian supported National Premier Leagues NSW club and Rockdale Ilinden Sports Centre, which is Rockdale Ilinden Football Club’s former home grounds.
