Locations we service
Stanmore is a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney that lies within the Marrickville local government area, which is 4 kilometres southwest of the centre of Sydney. The suburb was named by a wealthy saddler, John Jones, who bought the land in 1835 and named it Stanmore Estate. The suburb developed on both sides of Stanmore Road’s ridgeline. The ridgeline contains a couple of crests, which offer panoramic views to the Blue Mountains and Botany Bay. This area was and still is a real estate selling point.
Stanmore railway station is located on the Inner West line of Sydney’s CityRail network. The railway station provides access to the city at a reasonable price for those who own businesses or work in Sydney. The suburb also has a mini shopping centre beside the railway station, and there are commercial developments that run along the strip of Parramatta Road. The Olympia Milk Bar, which is a cultural icon, is located on Parramatta Road. Stanmore is also home to Saint Michael's Catholic Primary, Newington College, the state primary Stanmore Public School, and an independent GPS boys school.
In addition to Newington College's private facilities, sporting and recreational facilities in the suburb are limited to a handful of small playgrounds and parks, including Montague Gardens, Crammond Park, and Weekley Park. However, Stanmore does lend its name to the Stanmore Hawks soccer club. The Stanmore continues to be a mix of people from several different backgrounds and socio-economic groups. The suburb has become home to people from diverse cultural backgrounds, including Chinese, Portuguese and Vietnamese.
